There's a diaper in my dining room!
Ever wonder what makes you remember a day as really great, really crazy, or just plain terrible? Today was one of those days that on the surface was not so great. One of those days I might just forget about or remember as one of those crazy days as a mom. Rene is in Amsterdam and Lili is moving non-stop. In the late afternoon I start taking stock and notice the diaper in my dining room, remember cleaning the pee from the floor, I'm reminded of the blue paint on the white walls of our rented apartment, and there are little stacks of clothes on the floors in the halls and bathrooms. There's rice on the kitchen floor, and baby hand prints all over the glass doors. Crazy. I have not stopped cleaning today and yet the house is a mess. Today was one of the best days I will ever have...
There's a diaper in the dining room because Lili and I could not wait to get her in her bathing suit. She played in her new inflatable pool today and loved every minute of it. When she came inside because of the thunder, she just wasn't ready to get dressed. She peed while brushing her teeth and unfortunately for my potty training wishes... seemed to enjoy it. She laughed out loud when she saw the look on my face. The walls are painted because Lili has discovered the artist inside and she is really rather expressive. The clothes on the floor are because we have had so much fun playing, painting, digging and peeing that we have required many changes. And the rice... we come to where I stand now considering the days events. Lili is still naked. She is standing on a stool in front of the kitchen counter wrapping her rice in roasted seaweed. She can't seem to stop smiling. It's been a fun day for her. She overfills her mouth, looks at me and laughs. She rubs her naked belly in a way that says "yummy". A sign I have never taught her. Suddenly she is so damn cute I think I'm going to cry happy tears.
Today was a crazy, messy, hectic day. It was a fun day. I could easily forget about today. It was ordinary in so many ways. I'm so tired now at the end of it. But I won't forget. It was a day worth remembering.
